| 16 April 2008 Radius provide real time communication to monitor urban electrical system through its PDR radios. Radius provide a first in real time communication to more than 2 Cooper recloser used by Westar Energy. Radius PDR data radios are being used to constantly monitor Westar’s urban electrical systems close to Wichita University so they can provide optimum power supply and support, to the neighbourhood surrounding the University. Westar is the largest electric energy provider in Kansas, serving more than half a million residents. Their headquarters in Topeka, employs around 2,000 are people and serves more than 650,000 customers in much of east and east-central Kansas. energy centres in eight Kansas cities generate more than 6,000 megawatts of electricity, they operate and coordinate 33,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines. Westar Energy is dedicated to operating the best electric utility in the Midwest and providing quality service at below average prices. The joint Westar / Radius recloser project based in an urban neighborhood close to Wichita University was designed to communicate with three Cooper Form 5 Nova reclosers using Cooper’s Peercom protocol. This is an exciting and first time ever accomplish for any wireless network to work with three devices using the Peercom protocol from Cooper. The reclosers are used to help distribute electric power to this urban neighborhood and guarantee the businesses and residences constant electric power even during bad weather conditions. | |
