Radius NM-CCU - A Central Control Unit for Remote Control

Radius NM-CCU is a network data concentrator that connects Radius NetMan outstations with any SCADA system. By monitoring the status data from and sending signals to outstations, the NM-CCU acts as a complete control and communications system for electricity distribution networks. With its intuitive HMI, the NM-CCU also can be used as an independent data concentrator and/or primary SCADA RTU.

Benefits
  • Industry Standard Protocols
  • Easy to Program
  • Minimal Maintenance
  • Can Act as a Primary RTU
  • Local Control Panel with Intuitive Tocuh Screen
  • Built-in Radio Test Functions
  • Easy SCADA Integration
  • Handles up to 300 RTU`s

Easy Integration in Existing SCADA System
It is easy to integrate a Radius network concentrator to an existing SCADA system. The SCADA connection is achieved either via the RS232, Ethernet or the RS485 interfaces with a range of protocols. The NM-CCU can handle PRIP, RP570, Mk3, DSP4, Ferranti Mklll, IEC 870 and DNP3 protocols. It can also be connected via digital I/O cards between the SCADA system and NM-CCU. The NM-CCU can be connected to any existing SCADA system or Radius can also offer their complete SCADA systems, Radius Uni-View or SCADA-Lite.

Easy I/O Expansion
If there is a need of extra local control and supervision, the network concentrator can be equipped with local I/O`s.

Automatic Fault Restoration
Often when a situation occurs in the distribution network, it is not always possible for the SCADA control engineers to react in time. Radius has developed logic routines in the NM-CCU to allow an automated response to changes in the network. This means that vital customer minutes are not lost from the network and the impact of interruptions and outages are minmized. The level of automation is specified in close cooperation with the customer.

Distributed Control
Radius' SCADA concentrators also allow for manual control of the switchgear they control. This allows an engineer to take supervisory control away from the Network Managing System control engineers and take control of the switchgear from wherever the NM-CCU is located. This is another vital tool in helping the utilities industry to provide the highest quality of service to their customers.

Options
There are different options of HMI. By choosing a control panel with push buttons, the RTU's can be opened and closed by a simple push. There are also LED's giving information about the status of the RTU's. For a NM-CCU using the PRIP and RP570 protocols, the control panel is the only local maneuvering alternative. The intuitive touch screen gives the user, besides opening and closing breakers and switches, the possibility to get status information, access historical information and to see different data. In the standard mode, the touch screen comes with an overview page, as well as pages for controlling the switchgear and event log pages. The touch screen can be tailored to a specific customer, giving endless possibilities; adding maps, diagrams, help pages or instruction videos! It is also possible to get the same information as in the touch screen presented on a PC. The PC can be close to the NM-CCU but can also be accessed by Ethernet or Internet.

Accessories
Radius uninterruptible power supply ensure that the NM-CCU is powered if the normal power supply drops. Radius UPS consist of a battery, a charger and a BMU unit. A deep-discharge protection is giving additional protection. The unit is always charged and on stand-by ensuring a safe battery back-up. The unit indicates a number of alarms; mains lost, charger fail and low battery. The UPS has as standard a pained indoor cabinet but an outdoor option is available on request. Radius offers a number of UPS’s depending on the customers need.
