NME 300 SCADA Ready High Speed Electrical Actuator

Radius NME 300 is a maintenance free electrical motor driven operating device for supervision and control of pole-mounted air-break switches and load break switches. With its powerful motor the NME 300 does a rotating movement that can operate even the most stubborn units with the speed to make the operation safe.

Operational Features
The robust mechanical cabinet hosts a powerful electrical motor device creating a safe and rapid manoeuvre. The typical operation duration for Radius NME 300 is under one second. The device is normally remotely operated but can also be clear and easily understood. Indications such as switch position, battery status and charging status are easily viewed. A battery test can be performed at any time to check the condition of the batteries.

Communication Alternatives
The NME 300 is designed to operate in a wide range of switch applications. The motor switch operator can be used in conjunction with the following communication alternatives:

3rd Party Communications
The NME 300 can be supplied, as an option, with a DNP3 or IEC870 protocol interface, allowing it to be integrated into an existing SCADA system. The communication medium is then free so the NME 300 can communicate to the host via a range of different options, from TETRA radio to fibre optic or cellular. Radius can also provide their PDR range of digital data radios, which allow high-speed communication to the host system. By using a mesh type technology with repeating functionality it can cover very wide geographical areas.

Hit & Run
For additional safety the NMS 100 can be programmed to allow for ”Hit & Run“ operation which allows the operator to move to a safe distance away from the switch after pressing the local maneuver control. An audible bleep alerts the operator that the ”Hit & Run” function is armed, after a configurable waiting period the NMS 100 will operate.

Radius RNO Data Radios
For any remote device, the key to its successful operation is centred on the communication medium between the device and its host. Radius has been providing such communication systems for the electricity industry for decades and has designed a number of radio modems, which provides the security and robustness needed for these applications. Radius provides a fully SCADA integrated communication system. This is specifically designed for Distribution Automation and offers a range of purpose made data radios which utilize a compressed protocol with mesh technology, and high signal recovery resulting in a reliable wide area networked remote control and lower costs. The NME 300 is designed to fit seamlessly into this. The RNO data radios are event triggered to maximize spectrum efficiency and each unit can also act as a repeater forwarding messages to other units. Any message has the ability to pass through four other units before reaching its destination. The RNOs communicate with a central radio, which can be integrated into a SCADA system and can utilize industry protocols such as DNP3 and IEC870.

Fault Sectionalising
The NME 300 has an optional integrated self-sectionalising function. When a line disturbance occurs, a self-sectionalising routine starts. The user can configure how the system works, by setting various timing and reclaim parameters. The device will open within the dead-time of an upstream breaker and will close when the voltage returns for a preset period.  If it closes into a fault, it will open and lockout in the next dead-time. This makes the device ideally suited for spur lines as well as main sections. All information is reported to the customers control centre for immediate real time monitoring.
