NMS 100 is an intelligent remote control unit designed to monitor and control from one to nine switches/disconnectors. The unit has advanced features to allow automatic sectionalizing of the HV network under fault conditions and has an option for fault current indication.

Features
The NMS 100 is provided with a rechargeable battery solution to ensure continued operational performance beyond the loss of supplied voltage. Battery performance and battery life are very critical elements to the long-term effectiveness of any remote device. To that end, Radius has designed a sophisticated solution to maximize battery life.
Temperature
The NMS 100 cabinet temperature is thermostatically controlled to ensure battery temperatures are kept within the manufacturers` operating tolerances. Furthermore the battery charging is temperature compensated to ensure battery health. A calibrated load further tests the batteries at configurable time intervals to ensure that their health has been maintained.
Self-Sectionalizing
The NMS 100 has an optional integrated self-sectionalizing function. When a line disturbance occurs a self-sectionalizing routine starts. The user can configure how the system works by setting various timing and reclaim parameters. The device will open within the dead-time of an upstream breaker and will close when the voltage returns for a preset period. If it closes into a fault, it will open and lockout in the next dead-time. This makes the device ideally suited for spur lines as well as to the main sections. All information is reported to the customer`s control centre for immediate real time monitoring.
Hit & Run
For additional safety the NMS 100 can be programmed to allow for ”Hit & Run“ operation which allows the operator to move to a safe distance away from the switch after pressing the local maneuver control. An audible bleep alerts the operator that the ”Hit & Run” function is armed, after a configurable waiting period the NMS 100 will operate.
Communication Alternatives
The NMS 100 is designed to operate in a wide range of switch applications. The motor switch operator can be used in conjunction with the following communication alternatives:
For any remote device, the key to its successful operation is centered on the communication medium between the device and its host. Radius provides a fully SCADA integrated communication system. This is specifically designed for Distribution Automation and offers a range of purpose made data radios which utilize a compressed protocol with mesh technology, a high signal recovery resulting in a reliable wide area networked remote control and lower costs. The NMS 100 is designed to fit seamlessly into this. The RNO data radios are event triggered to maximize spectrum efficiency and each unit can also act as a repeater forwarding messages to other units. The RNO’s communicate with a central radio, which can be integrated into a SCADA system and can utilize industry protocols such as DNP3 and IEC870.
Protocols
The NMS 100 can be supplied, as an option, with a DNP3 or IEC870 protocol interface, allowing it to be integrated into an existing SCADA system. The communication medium is then free so the NMS 100 can communicate to the host via a range of different options from TETRA radio to fibre optic or cellular. Radius can also provide their PDR range of digital data radios, which allow wide high-speed communication to the host system. By using a mesh type technology with repeating functionality it can cover very wide geographical areas.
The NMS 100 can be deployed in a large switching station and can be hardwired via in-built terminal interfaces to the existing switching station marshalling cabinet and SCADA RTU. Control and monitoring is via opto-coupled interfaces and volt-free contacts. Power for the motor is derived from the battery in the NMS 100 and thus there is no concern about voltage drop along the cables to the unit.
